Meet Barbara Black. This is the block the Barbara created for the Studioe Fabrics Designer RSVP program using Peppered Cottons. This will be a part of the final Peppered Cottons quilt to be shown at the Spring ’18 Quilt Market in Portland.
Barbara has been sewing since she was a young girl and has been making quilts for more than 30 years. Her interest, skills and love for quiltmaking make her a dedicated quilt teacher. She has taught quilting since 1989 at local quilt shops as well as guilds and quilt shows throughout the US.
Barbara’s quilting accomplishments are extensive. Over the years, she has won many ribbons at quilt shows, including Best of Show in three separate shows. She has had four quilts accepted in the AQS Paducah show. She is also known for her feathered star medallion quilts, one called A-Round With My Friends and another called Joyful Journey. In 2014 Barbara was honored to have her quilt Red and White—By the Numbers, selected as the Commemorative Quilt for the 40th anniversary of International Quilt Festival Houston. It appeared in international advertising, throughout the city of Houston during the 2014 Market and Festival shows, and was featured on
the beautiful tote bags and show pins. The quilt was purchased as part of the Quilts Incorporated Corporate Collection.
Barbara has also worked for 19 years as an Education Team member with Quilts Inc., which hosts international trade shows and Festivals throughout the year. She has had quilts published by McCall’s Publishing and Christmas Year-Round, among other publications. In 2014 three of her quilts were included in the publication 500 Traditional Quilts, which featured the best traditional quilts of the 21st century so far. You can read about her quilting adventures at her blog: My Joyful Journey. http://bbquiltmaker.blogspot.com
Beyond her quilting life, Barbara enjoys spending time with her husband and two grown sons and her grand-girl, Stella, gardening, reading and traveling.
