Meet Robin Koehler of Nestlings by Robin.
Robin created two blocks that will be a part of the final Peppered Cottons quilt to be shown at the Spring ’18 Quilt Market in Portland.
Life is a journey and no one knows that more than Robin Koehler. Robin has traveled the world; first as a child of a military father, enlisting herself at 17, and later as the wife and mother in a military family.
While stationed with her husband and children in Puerto Rico in 1998, she was bitten by the quilting bug, when she was taught to quilt from another Coast Guard spouse. In 2004, when her passion for designing and technical skill level evolved, her business, NESTLINGS by Robin was born.
The cultural experience of travel and meeting people of diverse backgrounds helped influence her aesthetic while providing the opportunity to write, teach and design in multiple locales. During one of her husband’s assignments, she was lucky enough to meet and become friends with Pepper Cory. She considers her inclusion by Pepper, along with some of the brightest designers, in the RSVP Designers as a true honor.
In the 14 years since taking the leap, Robin has attended Quilt Market as a pattern designer, sold designs to multiple publications including Quilter’s World, Quiltmaker, and Generation Q magazine and taught at several Guilds along the east coast.
Starting July of 2018 her design, “Robin’s Wreaths”, will be the series quilt in AQ magazine.
Robin’s love of quilt artistry, the stories of the people behind the quilts, and their technical expertise, led her to begin training to become an AQS Certified Quilt Appraiser. The designers of the past are the inspiration for her work where she combines traditional elements with her own whimsical style.
A passion for hand work has led the NESTLINGS brand to grow and encompass #heritagearchitect where Robin is humbled and honored to help others complete their family heritage through hand quilting commissions.
